Accountex 2019 – what a show!

Accountancy Practices, Accounting, Events May 10, 2019

We can safely say we’re now fully recovered from another fantastic Accountex event at London’s Excel at the start of May! It hosted over 200 seminars over two days, many of which were so popular it was standing-room only. Thousands of accountants took the time to visit the vast array of vendors and sessions to arm themselves with plenty of tech-talk (and freebies!) to return to the office with.

We took delight in greeting regular faces but also welcoming so many new ones to our stand. Our branded water bottles evidently went down a treat and thirsty delegates frequently returned to us later in the day to stay hydrated after a long day of discussing workflow, financial forecasting and more!

More than software

Here at Thomson Reuters, we took the opportunity to unveil our More than software campaign with the accountancy community, many of whom were drawn to our stand by our eye-catching banners. Fronting the campaign are four of our exemplary customers, who are helping us celebrate the profession by acknowledging that accountants do so much more than just accountancy work in their day-to-day. In the same way, we provide more than just software. Accountex enforced the sentiment echoed in our campaign by supporting the notion that the world of accountancy is transforming, driven by changing regulation and advances in technology.
There were some great photo opportunities throughout the two days, when some of our advocates arrived at the stand and were placed next to the banner versions of themselves – see below for pictures of Stephen Pell, Founder of Pell Artists – an accountant to rockstars and musicians alike.

Making Tax Digital

MTD was, of course, a common theme at the conference and we found it to be among the most popular demonstration to be showcased by our account managers. It became clear that although many accountants prepared for MTD for VAT well in advance, there are still many out there who are only just taking action and have yet to implement a suitable solution.
Talking of MTD, we couldn’t fail to mention our resident award-winning tax expert, Mark Purdue. As expected, delegates flocked to his live talks where he gave the most up-to-date information about the newly enforceable regulation, and his predictions for the timescales of further rollouts.
